THE INVISIBLE POLICEMAN
Netherlands, Palestine, United Arab Emirates 2011 – Director: Laith Al-Juneidi – Original language: Arabic – Subtitles: English – Length: 59 min.
Nidal, also known as “Abu Sa’ed” is a Palestinian police officer and the father of nine children. His life is marked by contradictions: during his assignments in the uptown of Hebron he is in control, meanwhile in the old town he and his family are prey to the arbitrary behaviour of the Israeli military. The consequences of this include a burned-down house, a miscarriage and the arrest of several of his children. Abu Sa’ed walks a fine line between his civilian family life and his position as custodian of law and order. This situation however cannot bring him to give up his home without a fight. An enthralling examination of power and impotence in the Middle East conflict, exemplified by an individual fate. Anja Klauck
