Thirty years ago they were teenage freedom fighters. Seven women who were once Tupamaros, members of a radical left-wing guerrilla movement active in Uruguay in the late 60s and early 70s, speak of the revolutionary zeal that once drove them and contemplate its consequences. Looking back on the intense friendships they forged in the movement; recalling the social injustice that inspired them to fight; remembering betrayals, arrests, torture and years of imprisonment, these women reveal intimate details of their personal histories. Openly, earnestly and without holding back, they tell of the moral dilemmas of their past and the decisive moments that have shaped their futures. Using a blend of interviews and archive material, Diana Cardozo exposes just what atrocities people can be capable of when faced with extreme circumstances. Nonetheless her moving film retains a strong sense of humanity at its core.
