PARALLEL LINES
USA 2003 – Director: Nina Davenport – Original language: English – Length: 98 min.
This is a road movie through an America changed. In the fall of 2001, Filmmaker Nina Davenport set out from California, driving back home to New York City. The apartment she lives in once faced the World Trade Center.
Things have changed. But just how much? Trying to come to terms with what she is about to face, Davenport stops in different towns to ask people how 9-11 has affected their lives. Nevertheless this film is not about the events of that day; they quickly recede into background of the film, serving instead as a kind of window into the inner lives of Americans. The attacks are viewed through the prism of each individual story of personal loss and tragedy told to the camera.
The conventional meets the bizarre; patriotism is confronted with a sense of historical responsibility – a portrait of America.
