Modernisation arrived here long ago – mobile phones and cars belong as much to the everyday as the horse carts in the fields and the milking of the sheep by hand – but now life is beginning to change. Since Romania joined the EU the local women travel every summer to work in the fields in Germany. Suddenly in one season they can earn as much as the shepherds do in a year._In beautiful images Auner documents the region’s slow transformation and an almost imperceptible shift towards a new way of life ruled by a different economy.
