MY GERMAN CHILDREN
Germany, Israel 2013 – Director: Tom Tamar Pauer – Original language: German, Hebrew – Subtitles: English – Length: 82 min.
"There's nothing for me here." muses 15-year-old Daniel. After a year in Israel he longs to return to Germany where he was born and grew up. The director of the film, his mother, Tom Tamar Pauer, has at this point already decided to stay in her homeland of Israel with Daniel’s six-year-old sister. This is where her parents live - German, non-Jewish Fritzi and Israeli Dani, who comes from a family of holocaust survivors. Just like her children, Tom’s upbringing now involves a balancing act between Christian and Jewish identities.
MY GERMAN CHILDREN is a very personal and touching family portrait set against the conflict-ridden German-Israeli history. Andrea Naica-Loebell
