MUTTER
Schweiz 2002 – Director: Miklós Gimes – Original language: German, Hungarian – Subtitles: German – Length: 100 min.
The film tells the emotional story of a Hungarian woman who fled to Switzerland with her six-years old son after the uprising in 1956. Meanwhile her husband is executed by the Communist regime in Hungary because he was thought to be a leading "counter-revolutionary". She leads the life of an emigrant in Switzerland until she is once again dramatically confronted with history. When she visits the old homeland, her husband has become a hero posthumously following the end of the Cold War. It's the directors mothers dramatic life between love and politics.
"With his film Gimes has accomplished creating a document of the times, which through its subjective view provides an important contribution to an objective understanding of the described events." (Neue Zürcher Zeitung)
