MEIN LIEBSTER FEIND
Germany 1999 – Director: Werner Herzog – Co-Director: Herb Golder – Original language: German – Subtitles: None – Length: 95 min.
“You are a dwarf director, but not a director for me!” Klaus Kinski’s words, taken from the legendary dispute during the filming of AGUIRRE, DER ZORN GOTTES in Peru in 1972, explain the title of this film. Werner Herzog’s ‘best fiend,’ the extreme actor recently accused by his daughter to be a rapist, was always incensed. He was the performer with whom Herzog enjoyed his biggest successes, and vice versa. In 1953, when the director was still a child, they both lived by chance under the same roof in Munich. Then twenty years later Herzog sent Kinsi the script for AGUIRRE. Kinski was thrilled. Now who was the crazier of the two of them? Moritz Holfelder
