MEANDROS

With twists and turns, just like the conflicts that have made their mark on Columbia, the Río Guaviare meanders snake-like through the South American country. On its banks lies a fragmented world of drug wars and ethnic differences. Once upon a time they expelled the indigenous population of the Nukak-Maku; today the settlers and coca growers have themselves been forced to flee from hostilities. The rural population is caught up in a web of fighting between F.A.R.C., paramilitaries and the drugs mafia. But it is pointless for the affected growers to run away from the economic power of coca. The state has been too slow to replace its short-sighted fumigation attempts with alternative agricultural strategies. The coca heirs go armed into the next generation._The Columbia problem is an explosive situation that shows no sign of abating.
