MA VIE RÉELLE
Canada 2013 – Director: Magnus Isacsson – Original language: French – Subtitles: English – Length: 90 min.
“They are not deprived youth, they are young people who are faced with tougher decisions than others!” Dan, a music teacher, seeks to offer rappers like Alex and Mike better prospects than dealing drugs. In their music the “problem children” from the north of Montreal declare their most intimate feelings with heart-warming sensitivity, great talent and a striking self-awareness. Through this they receive what was lacking from their schools and parental homes: recognition and attention.
Isacsson’s last film, which he completed while seriously ill with cancer, is, even in its most dismal moments, full of hope and faith in a better future. Marcus Morlinghaus
