LA BOCCA DEL LUPO (THE MOUTH OF THE WOLF)
Italy 2009 – Director: Pietro Marcello – Original language: Italian – Subtitles: English – Length: 75 min.
The Northern Italian town of Genoa – then and now. The story of an unbalanced love affair between transsexual Mary and Sicilian Enzo is skilfully interwoven with striking images of the past century. In this way, memories of the lively labour movement in the town’s port are brought to life. And, while Mary waits for Enzo to be released from prison, the film revels in archive footage of huge ships being launched or whole factories being blown up. With its powerful montage of poetic associations LA BOCCA DEL LUPA interlinks completely different genres and narrative styles. It is both a love story and a historical film, with touching interviews, reconstructions, archive footage and a complex sound collage built up from voiceover and music.
