KOUNDI ET LE JEUDI NATIONAL
CMR 2010 – Director: Ariane Astrid Atodji – Original language: French – Subtitles: English, French, German – Length: 86 min.
The small village of Koundi in Cameroon has grown rich from the timber trade. Even so the villagers fear losing their connection to the globalised economy and do not want to rely on wood alone. Therefore Koundi’s 1200 inhabitants begin to establish a communal cocoa plantation for the good of the village as a whole._The director Ariane Astrid Atodji shows us daily life in Koundi through an ethnological observational approach: direct, without commentary and displaying a confident flair for precise camera work and montage. Between the archaic and the modern KOUNDI provides an unobtrusive insight into the social structures of an African village – at times whimsical, at times tragicomic and at times simply documenting the tough daily grind.
