Two islands - two worlds on lake Chiemsee. The "Fraueninsel" or Ladies Island and the "Herreninsel" or Gentlemen's Island. "The Oasis of bliss" is what the 120 inhabitants of the Fraueninsel call their home. They are craftsmen, artists, fishers, and nuns. They have learnt to live from and with the tourists.

The "Herreninsel" has become the full property of the State of Bavaria. King Ludwig II's "new castle" is a tourist-magnet and a must-see for the "Chiemsee-Islandhoppers."

The islands twenty inhabitants manage the castle; take care of the gardens and woods; attend to the guests and the horses, who in turn take the guests to the castle.

Is life on the islands a dream come true, the quenching of an unfulfilled desire or is it isolation. The film documents the life of the islanders, a life that enriches and depresses.
