IM BAZAR DER GESCHLECHTER (IN THE BAZAAR OF SEXES)
“Which side are you on? On the side of the men or of the women?” a Mullah asks a young blogger who runs a website about temporary marriage. This Shia practice, otherwise known as “lust-marriage,” has been around for 1400 years and allows couples to marry for a fixed period of time, from one hour to 99 years. Some see it as a form of legalised prostitution, others as a real alternative to the strict laws of the Islamic Republic. IN THE BAZAAR OF THE SEXES reveals traditional and modern perspectives on the market value of marriage partners. Issues of power and relationships are openly and sometimes humorously debated. “What benefits women, ultimately benefits men too,” is the discerning answer of the Iranian blogger.
