Gladis is Cuban, 27 years old, a strong and experienced woman. Her principle: "Whe a man starts treating you badly, throw him out." On New Years Eve 2002 she gets engaged to Eric, a German, in Havana. Together with him, Gladis and her small son Omarito leave Cuba for Hamburg. She is determined not to give up her independence in a foreign country. Soon however, her new life in Europe is overshadowed by daily fights with Eric. When they travel to Sicily. Events take an unexpected turn, and eventually something happens that points the lives of Gladis, Erik and even Omarito in a new direction.

"As filmmakers, we saw an opportunity to view frim within a relationship. But we also wanted to be with Gladis and her son when they arrived in germany, a country we had only ever experienced through our own eyes. Marry Me was also supposed to be a film about the battle of the sexes, about understanding and misunderstanding, about the difficulty of overcoming entrenched beliefs and creating a new world for yourself. And of course we wamted to describe what happens when different cultures, mentalities, whishe and projections collide."
