FRANSISCO SANCHEZ - PACO DE LUCÍA
Spanien 2002 – Director: Daniel Hernández Diez – Original language: Spanish – Subtitles: English – Length: 94 min.
Before Fransisco Sanchez, the stars in flamenco were the dancers and the singers. But then this musician turned flamenco guitar into an art in its own right. At fifteen he took his mothers name, Lucia. Today, Paco de Lucia has retired to Mexico, concentrating on technical skills and composition.
The film is structured around two lives of the same person. On the one hand, there is an intimate portrait of the man, with interviews with his family and old friends such as Chick Korea. On the other hand, interviews with guitarists, like Tomatito or Vicente Amigo give an impression of the great influence de Lucia has exerted as a pioneer of flamenco. Excerpts from the concerts on his last tour of Europe, which include appearances by Camaron de la Isla, Al di Meola, Manuel de Falla and John McLaughlin finish of the mixture of portrait and music film.
