Angolan Julio Lusadisu is one of the founders of the football club "Academy Africa Sports", a Munich team of 20 black players from eight different African countries. "After beating the 3rd division of the local league, we want a walkover into the district league", he states. They have already reached the 1st division even though they only started weekly training together, in the Munich borough of Ottobrunn, two years ago.

For Oscar, John and their football pals, the club is everything, a substitute for their families left behind, and a chance of integration in a foreign country. Many of them only have the status of asylum seekers in Germany, which means that only a few lucky ones get the right to work at all. Finding a job is another story. For all the others, it means marking time in shared housing, living on a minimal budget with restricted freedom of movement. But as soon as the men get onto the pitch, all their problems seem forgotten for a while. Football is their means of expression, their chance of recognition – in sports as in life.
