ELF FREUNDINNEN
Germany 2012 – Director: Sung-Hyung Cho – Original language: German – Length: 95 min.
“It would be nice to be able to live from football but that is a utopia.” It has been a long time since people have sneered at women’s football yet it still functions completely differently to its male counterpart. In the summer of 2011, during the World Cup in Germany, it caught the public’s attention like never before. The whole of Germany got behind the reigning world champions who were hoping to get their hands on the cup once again: “One team – one dream – one million fans” was their slogan.
Sung-Hyung Cho accompanied the German national team preparing for and during the tournament. She managed to get extremely close to the footballers whether that was during their training or in private moments kicking around a grapefruit in the kitchen. Andrea Naica-Loebell
