DUGIT AL MAIM SOARIM
Israel 2002 – Director: Gil Karni – Original language: hebräisch, arabisch – Subtitles: English – Length: 58 min.
Two Israeli families in the Gaza strip. Dugit is a small village in the noth of Gaza. Twelve years ago, the Goren family came here from Tel Aviv to fish and open up a restaurant. Their friend Roni Cohen is from Be´er Sheva in Israel. He is a former carpenter and settled at the sea. He learnt how to fish from his Palestinian neighbours, whom he founded the first Israeli-Palestinian fisher's union.
In October 2000 the second Intifada begins. The Israeli army prohibits the Palestinian fishers from going out to sea with their Israeli partners from Dugit. Then curfews follow. At night, Dugit is attacked by Palestinian terrorists. The little village slowly turns into an army post. The Israelis lose contact to the Palestinian fishers. They had not only shown a sign of friendship with them. They had shared a philosophy of life.
