AUFBRUCH UND ABSCHIED: DREI FRAUEN IN ALBANIEN

This film takes us to Albania, to the capital city of Tirana. This is where Ayette, the grandmother lives. At fourteen she was married off. At sixteen, she bore her first child, a daughter. Four more daughters followed. One of them is Bule. She too married early. Unlike her parents, who continued to practice their religion in secret, she completely abandoned her religion. Bule admired Enver Hoxha and believed in Socialism. Today, years after the end of the Cold War, her daughter Dorit may enjoy freedom, but her goal is to go abroad, she wants to study in Italy. She sees no future for herself in Albania, in this poor and neglected country._The film tells the stories of these three women, each closely interwoven with social developments in Albania throughout the previous century.
