ARGENTINIAN LESSON (ARGENTYNSKA LEKCJA)
Poland 2011 – Director: Wojciech Starón – Original language: Polish, Spanish – Subtitles: English – Length: 56 min.
Janek moves with his family from Poland to a village in the North of Argentina where his mother is going to teach Polish. The incessant tropical rainfall, mate tea with ice, school in the rainforest and the language – all of it is new for the eight-year old. And so is his friendship with 12-year old Marcia, who is also of Polish descent and who makes adobe bricks to help alleviate her parents’ money worries. The director, Janek’s father, follows the children as they become more and more in tune with their new world and reveals their sometimes childish, sometimes existentially adult hardships in poetic and intense images. ARGENTINIAN LESSON is a sequel to SIBERIAN LESSON (1998), in which Wojciech Staron documented his time as a young teacher on Lake Baikal. Samay Claro
