BOTTLEMEN
Serbien, Slowenien 2023 – Director: Nemanja Vojinović – Original language: Romanian, Serbian – Subtitles: English, German – Length: 83 min.
On the outskirts of Belgrade lies one of Europe’s largest landfill sites. Once an archaeological site dating back to the European Neolithic period, this toxic place – repeatedly ravaged by fires – is now the workplace of people who try to eke out a living by fishing through the rubbish: plastic bottles, for which there is still a market as a recyclable material. Filled with dystopian imagery, this film observes the daily work of a group of men, reveals their hierarchy and social contradictions, and finds poetry where one least expects it.
