"They are the Sergeant Peppers of Hip Hop." What the Beatles did for pop, a Tribe Called Quest from New York did for the hip hop movement. They were icons. This filmic journey takes us way back into the past, telling the story of how the world-famous combo got together, developed, and broke up after they found fame in the 1990s. Big names from the scene, such as Run DMC, The Roots, Beastie Boys and the members of Native Tongues offer profound perspectives on this piece of music history. The director, Rapaport - himself a fan of the band - accompanies A Tribe Called Quest on a reunion tour in 2008, 10 years after they split. Frank interviews, creatively-applied archive material and vérité-style moments let us in on the thrilling atmosphere behind the scenes. Maren Bornemann
