BOXING GYM
USA 2010 – Director: Frederick Wiseman – Original language: English – Length: 91 min.
A run-of-the-mill boxing club in Austin, Texas. The old and the young, women and men, Mexicans and Texans, amateurs and pros all train here. Their dancing footsteps, the pelting of fists on punch balls and the repetition of three-minute training cycles make up the soundtrack of this unusual social study. At its core is a fascination with the body and its pursuit of precision and speed, which cuts across all ages and all sectors of society. An eight-year-old girl in flip-flops sidesteps an invisible opponent; an eighty-year-old man swipes through the air with his fists._In Wiseman’s film we follow a rhythm of life that is generated by nothing other than ourselves.
