BROTHER YUSEF
Schweiz / (Deutschland) 2005 – Director: Nicolas Humbert, Werner Penzel – Original language: English – Length: 52 min.
Brother Yusef is Yusef Lateef, one of Jazz's living legends who worked alongside icons of his genre such as John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Charles Mingus and Canonball Alderley. At the age of 84 he still plays his saxophone and lives a quiet life in Massachusetts in a small wooden house surrounded by a forest. It sounds like something out of a fairytale and the filmmakers Nicolas Humbert and Werner Penzel were only too aware of the magical 'gift' of being able to film such an enigmatic and influential jazz legend. Both admitted that when they arrived to film him neither had any idea where the film was going to go.
