ENERGIELAND

Deutschland 2011 – Director: Johanna Ickert – Original language: German – Subtitles: English – Length: 86 min.

In actual fact, the energy company, Vattenfall, wanted a corporate video to present the benefits of the controversial CCS technology for capturing CO2 but the student from Konrad Wolf Film and Television University had absolutely no desire to make an advertisement for Vattenfall, but rather an objective documentary with the controversial issue as its theme. Director, Johanna Ickert, eventually set to work talking to employees of the company, civil rights campaigners and the residents of a CCS test-area in Lusatia. ENERGIELAND shows the disruption of an area where energy transition is presenting one of its biggest challenges. The film asks: how does democracy function? Is energy transition really what people want? Matthias Leitner
