Into the desert, inside the desert and around the desert. In 27 long, precise 360-degree panning shots, German veteran documentary filmmaker Dietrich Schubert (who has made 70 films to date) undertakes an insightful and sensitive journey from the German Eifel region through Genoa and Tunis into the desert of Southern Tunisia. There are no commentaries and no music to disturb our liberated thoughts. Our senses are sharpened to appreciate the people, animals, buildings and dunes, forms, lights, shadows and colours. We start to understand. We have all the time in the world and we can use it to perceive the smallest details and the slightest sounds. And in its entirety we feel the spirit of the desert that leads man back to his inner core. At the end, a quote by acclaimed Libyan Tuareg writer Ibrahim al-Koni says: "And what remains is the vastness of the desert and the vastness in the heart, the silence in the ear and the silence in the heart, the quietness in the desert and the quietness in the heart. The water of the Karma source cleans the body. But the spirit can only be cleansed in the desert."
