FATTO DA DIO
Deutschland 2002 – Director: Martin Pfeil – Original language: Italian – Subtitles: German – Length: 60 min.
"This wonderful place was not created by man, but by God" says Don Walter, the director of the Salesian Institute in San Giorgio Maggiore, a small island that can be seen from the Piazza di San Marco in Venice. His whole life takes place at the institute.
Don Tiziano, another monk living on the island, prefers going out into the wide world. He provides help where it is needed most. As a modern missionary, teaching people to help themselves, he has been to Brazil and Guatemala. He has built over 300 churches and brought education and a perspective to over a thousand street-children. Tirelessly he mobilizes his Italian compatriots to support the poorest of the poor.
The Benedictine monks, on the other hand have chosen a contemplative life of introspection. They live in a kind of symbiosis with their neighbours, the Salesians, sharing their church and park with them. Despite their secluded way of life, the Benedictine monks are open and friendly towards visitors, and pleased to talk about their life.
