Deutschland 2021 – Director: Aliaksei Paluyan – Admission: 7,50 euros

Shortly before the Belarusian presidential election in August 2020, we meet Marina, Pavel and Denis, all members of the Belarus Free Theatre in Minsk. Directed by founders Nikolai Khalezin and Natalia Kaliada, who live in exile in London, they are rehearsing a new play that addresses political oppression and existential threats from the authorities. But then the August election takes place and the electoral fraud drives people into the streets. In the midst of the protests, the film accompanies the three protagonists, illuminating moments of cohesion, civil resistance and repression by police forces. Courage gives three theatre people a voice and at the same time shows the uncompromising force of the mass protests in Belarus. Pavel and Denis were arrested in early 2021 and fled to Kyiv after their release. (Text: MITTEL PUNKT EUROPA)
