The international competition opens doors into new worlds. The films compete for the VIKTOR Main Competition, worth 10,000 Euros, donated by Bayerischer Rundfunk.

DOK.deutsch
The DOK.deutsch competition presents films that deal with people and events in the German-speaking region. In in-depth narratives we are exposed to extraordinary experiences and gain valuable insights.

The films in the DOK.horizonte series, supported by ENGAGEMENT GLOBAL with funds from the BMZ, tell stories from countries in transition. They are nominated for the VIKTOR DOK.horizonte, endowed with 5,000 euros, donated by the Petra Kelly Foundation.

Student Award
The Student Award of DOK.fest München presents outstanding documentary films by students of German-speaking film schools. The films are nominated for the megaherz Student Award, worth 3,000 Euros.

Homage to Heidi Specogna
The homage of DOK.fest München 2022 is dedicated to the pioneer of Swiss documentary film, Heidi Specogna, who focuses on the global south in a special way. We present six of her films.

Retrospective: Franquismo in Spain
Franco's legacy – for a long time a culturally untouched, nationwide trauma that has become a defining part of Spanish identity. We present six films from four decades of facing and coping with Franquismo.

The editing award, worth 5,000 euros, honours special editing achievements in documentary film. The award is donated by Adobe.

Director Diem Ha Le wins the DOK.fest Award of SOS-Kinderdörfer weltweit 2022 for CHILDREN OF THE MIST. Nominated are films that make it possible to experience the perspective of children and young people in a remarkable way. Endowed with 3,000 euros, sponsored by B.O.A. Videofilmkunst.

The award focuses on the work of up-and-coming Bavarian directors. It is endowed with 5,000 euros and is sponsored by the FilmFersehFonds Bayern.

German Documentary Film Music Award
Alva Noto aka Carsten Nicolai receives the German Documentary Film Music Award 2022 for his music for the film THIS STOLEN COUNTRY OF MINE by Marc Wiese. The award is endowed with 5,000 euros. It is donated by the Versicherungskammer Kulturstiftung.

VFF Documentary Film Production Award
For their work on 1001 NIGHTS APART, producers Sarvnaz Alambeigi, Stefan Tolz and Thomas Riedelsheimer receive the VFF Documentary Production Award. The award is endowed with 7,500 euros and is donated by the VFF Verwertungsgesellschaft der Film und Fernsehproduzenten mbH.

Documentary Film Award by the Goethe-Institut
The Documentary Film Award by the Goethe-Institut honors an outstanding German documentary film of the current year. Starting in 2022, the prize will be awarded on a rotating basis (Munich, Leipzig, Duisburg and Kassel). Endowed with 2,000 euros.
