The German Documentary Film Music Award honours one composition every year, which relates in an extraordinary way with the narrative of a documentary. It provides a platform for the works of composers and the value of music as an additional means for the narrative in documentary films.

The prize is endowed with 5,000 Euro. The awardees will be the team of filmmaker and composer. The German Documentary Film Music Award is sponsored by Versicherungskammer Kulturstiftung and supported by the assistance fund of the German Association of Composers (DKV).

The German Documentary Film Music Award aims at composers and filmmakers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Luxemburg.
