A train journey through Tanzania, which takes us across the vast landscapes of the East African country and gives us a glimpse into its society. In the microcosm of a train carriage we get to know two Maasai, a priest and a bar owner and learn what it means to be Tanzanian.
THE CHINESE WILL COME (Serbien 2018, Tanja Brzakovic, DOK.panorama). Chinese migrants are hardly noticed in Serbia. They work in agriculture and trade, supplying the population with cheap everyday products. But a state visit by the Chinese president promises future-oriented changes.
THE GRAND HOTEL BALLET – LES PETITS MAÎTRES DU GRAND HOTEL (Frankreich 2018, Jacques Deschamps, DOK.panorama). Learning the ropes in a traditional French hotel: laying tablecloths neatly (ironing helps!), cleaning rooms, serving, greeting guests. THE MAGIC LIFE OF V (Bulgarien, Finnland, Dänemark 2019, Tonislav Hristov, Best of Fests). 25-year-old Veera, who is traumatised by a difficult childhood with a violent father, attempts to regain her self-confidence and become the heroine of her own story through live roleplaying. A poignant film about the power of fantasy.
THE MIRACLE OF THE LITTLE PRINCE (Niederlande 2018, Marjoleine Boonstra, DOK.panorama). Tibetan, Tamazight, Sami, Nahuat… The French novella „The Little Prince” has been translated into more than 300 languages. Poetically and insightfully, the film portrays the book’s translators and gives an insight into their sometimes indigenous languages and cultures.
THE RAFT – FLOTTEN (Schweden 2018, Marcus Lindeen, Best of Fests). In 1973, six women and five men spent 101 days on a raft crossing the Atlantic. This was not an accident nor a reality TV format, but a social experiment by Santiago Genovés, a Mexican who was researching the roots of human violence.
