VON WEGEN "SCHICKSAL" (Deutschland 1979, Helga Reidemeister). Irene Rakowitz gets divorced after 20 years of marriage and takes her life into her own hands. She is faced with a lack of understanding from her husband Richard and with fierce resistance from her 14-year-old daughter Astrid. A hugely important film on the topic of emancipation – not only in 1979.
MAMACITA (Deutschland, Mexiko 2018, José Pablo Estrada Torrescano). In her small realm in Mexico, 98 year-old “Mamacita” is a beauty queen. But when her grandson comes to visit, secrets, lies and deceptions come to light, affecting five generations of the high society family.
MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A. (Großbritannien, USA, Sri Lanka 2018, Steve Loveridge). Rebel, artist, pop icon and mother: M.I.A. wears many hats. Her original music and culture clash aesthetic have brought her international success. The film compiles personal videotapes, interviews and live concert recordings and reveals an extraordinary woman with a vociferous attitude.
O PROCESSO – THE TRIAL (Niederlande, Brasilien, Deutschland 2018, Maria Augusta Ramos). In 2016 a political thriller unfolds in the capital city of Brasília. The president Dilma Rousseff is on trial and faces removal from her office. The political elite and the general population are deeply divided and are fighting on both sides for their beloved Brasil.
OUAGA GIRLS – OUAGA GIRLS (Schweden, Burkina Faso, Frankreich, Qatar 2017, Theresa Traore Dahlberg). In a training centre in West African Burkina Faso young women learn how to be car mechanics. Self-assured and determined they are taking pioneering steps in a male-dominated profession.
THE GODDESSES OF FOOD (Frankreich, Großbritannien 2017, Vérane Frédiani). A woman’s place is in the kitchen? The Haute Cuisine profession is strongly male dominated both in the nominations for Michelin stars as well as in the media. Who are the major female chefs of our time? The film sets out to investigate and makes discoveries everywhere!
WHAT WALAA WANTS – WHAT WALAA WANTS (Dänemark / Kanada 2018, Christy Garland). 15-year-old Walaa wants to be a police officer but she is a rebellious teenager. Her family offer her hardly any support. WHAT WALAA WANTS follows the girl from the West Bank on her path to adulthood and the police academy.
