Sections and Awards 2011

The classic competition for internationally renowned productions, which has sparked worldwide sensation and interest. The films in this section are nominated for the Documentary:Filmaward:2011 of the Bayerischer Rundfunk and Telepool GmbH (10.000 EUR).

A new competition for German language competition films that thematically and geographically address fascinating regional themes. The films in this section are nominated for the BLM Film Award 2011 of the Bavarian Authority for Private Broadcasting (5,000 EUR).

The competition is for films from developing and emerging countries, which were made under difficult political or financial situations and are committed to promoting human rights, social justice, and sustainable development.

These films are nominated for the festival's Horizons Award (3.000 EUR). ARTE is the sponsor of DOK.horizons.

The section for international productions that everyone should see. An assortment of current and innovative documentaries from around the world.

DOK.fest 2011 presents in its section, DOK.guest, films from various lands of the Balkans. How does this muti-ethnic region look after the great changes that took place in the nineties? The selection of films from and about this multiethnical region offers a multi-layered insight into life, beyond the headlines.

The young generation lies especially close to our hearts. This special section offers school screenings which aim to tackle themes relevant to young people and to promote media literacy. DOK.education also offers practical workshops and two special screenings for the youth.

A unique bonus program containing a selection of Klaus Wildenhahn's most significant films. He interpreted the direct cinema in his very own way and established it in Germany. Whereby he focused not only at international artists but equally he is interested in the "small mans world".

A platform for both established filmmakers and talented newcomers from Munich.

One-off special screenings with surrounding programmes: In Memoriam Juliane Schuhler with AUFBRUCH UND ABSCHIED: DREI FRAUEN IN ALBANIEN and UND WIR SIND NICHT DIE EINZIGEN by Christoph Röhl.

Awarded by the subtitle network mimikri media: the best German new talent production will have their next film subtitled in order to support its participation in international festivals.

The festival on tour. Four films selected from the programme will go on tour all around the surroundings of munich during the festival, from friday till sunday.
