DOK.education
Actions devoted to schools
Our DOK.education section focuses on documentaries of high educational value such as relevant themes for school kids and teenagers (example: mobbing, prevention of violence, integration). In educational film workshops after the screenings the young participants and their teachers are introduced to the skills of reading films. We think that film literacy shouldn’t be considered a matter of course and should be encouraged in adolescents in particular.
The DOK.education section primarily addresses youth and teachers in its content and form and has been acknowledged as teacher training by Academy for Teacher Training Dillingen / Germany. During its premiere within DOK.fest 2010 the event already enjoyed a considerable amount of success and demand. Over 3 days we had 450 pupils from 21 different classes in 9 different screenings of two documentaries. Teachers participating gave positive feedback, praising the film education value of the screenings and workshops.
At DOK.fest 2011 we continued this section with
- 2 new hands-on workshops
- 2 premiers of feature length – documentaries plus Q&A-session
- 5 days program
- 4 short-films with additional film-classes directed by media pedagogues
- preparation and follow-up for teachers including educational materials
- all over the school year: two additional screenings including Q&Q-session and hands-on-workshop
The number of participants has been increasing from 450 to 850.
NEW: DOK.education offers its programs and events all over the year to Institutions for juvenile labour and public audiences.
